Sunday, December 06, 2009 MACON, Ga. – Mercer senior guard Courtney Ford notched her second triple-double of the season as the Bears cruised to a 98-69 win over Belmont in Saturday afternoon’s Atlantic Sun women’s basketball game held in the University Center. Ford scored 14 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out 10 assists, becoming just one of two players in Division I basketball to have multiple triple-doubles this season. St. Mary’s Louella Tomlinson also has two triple-doubles on the year. "Ford was incredible," Mercer head coach Janell Jones said. "She is just fun to watch. There is not much coaching involved, you just let her play. She generates energy for the rest of the team and right now its just exciting to be a part of her senior year." With today’s win, Mercer improves to 4-2 on the season and more importantly, 2-0 in A-Sun play. The Bears have now started conference play 2-0 for the second-straight season. Belmont, on the other hand, drops to 5-2 on the season with the loss and 1-1 in A-Sun action. "Its not every night a lot of people are clicking on all cylinders," Jones said. "The girls were feeding off each other really well and we were able to contain their dribble-drive offense for the majority of the game." Mercer’s offensive output snapped a number of University Center single-game records, including highest field goal percentage (59%), highest three-point field goal percentage (64.7%), most points in University Center history (98), largest margin of victory in UC history (29 points), most field goals made (36), most three-point field goals made (11), and most assists in a single game (25). |
