Monday, December 21, 2009 MACON, Ga. – On Monday, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced its weekly women’s basketball award with Stetson’s Jessica Conner earning her first league honor. Jessica Conner scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Hatters to their first win of the season, a 69-61 A-Sun triumph against USC Upstate at the Edmunds Center on Thursday. It only took the junior forward until the 6:00 mark of the first half to reach double-double status. Conner helped ignite a 10-3 run over the final two minutes with a key field goal and pair of free throws as Stetson weathered a Spartan comeback attempt. Other Top PerformersCourtney Chihil, FGCU (So. - Guard - Tipp City, Ohio - Physical Therapy) – Chihil led FGCU to a 71-56 victory against USC Upstate last week to help the Eagles pick up their second conference win this season. The sophomore guard registered game-highs with 11 rebounds and a career-high six steals, in addition to scoring 15 points, including 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Chihil's six steals placed her tied-second all-time in the FGCU record books for steals in a single game. Ashley Williamson, Campbell (Sr. - Center - Colonial, Heights, Va. - Biology) – Williamson averaged a double-double on the week, leading Campbell to a split. The senior center posted 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, leading the Lady Camels with 17 points and 13 boards at Longwood, both season highs. The double-double notched Williamson's first of the season and the fifth of her career. Williamson also led Campbell to a 74-63 win against Jacksonville, the first time the Lady Camels have downed the Dolphins since January of 2006. Jacksonville won the next six contests before CU came out on top on Saturday. |
