Dolphins Host Ospreys in CSS Game of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Monday’s A-Sun/CSS broadcast heads to Jacksonville, Fla. for the latest women’s basket¬ball edition of the SunTrust River City Rumble “Battle for the Barrel” as Jacksonville hosts UNF at 5:00 p.m. on Monday from Swisher Gymnasium.

UNF seeks to build off of a 75-64 victory against Lipscomb on Saturday, a win that ended a three-game skid. Against the Lady Bisons, sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland posted 23 points, while junior guard Juliemay Syquio and freshman forward Jadhken Kerr added 15 and 10 points, respectively. Senior forward Arlande Cherizol collected a career-high 17 rebounds in the victory.

The Dolphins split with the Nashville schools, suffering a 74-53 loss against Belmont on Saturday and posting a victory at Lipscomb on Thursday. Against the Bruins, sophomore guard Ashanti Williams tallied a season-high 14 points off the bench, while junior guard Gigi Thomas added eight points. Additionally, senior guard Courtney Jackson and junior center Lynsey Paschal each finished with seven points.

During the last SunTrust River City Rumble on Feb. 16, 2009, the Dolphins’ clutch free-throw shooting in the final minute secured a 64-56 victory. The Osprey’s Syquio led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the field and a 4-for-4 effort from the line while also adding a game-high seven assists.

Jacksonville’s Jackson leads the Dolphins, as the Atlanta, Ga. native averages 10.4 points per game, while Johnson tallies 10.2 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game and averages one block per game. For UNF, Kirkland paces the squad in both scoring, 14.2 points per game, and in assists, 4.12 per game. The community health major also leads the A-Sun in minutes played, 35.65 per game. Syquio and Kerr average eight points per game while Cherizol notches 7.5 rebounds per game. Since the Ospreys joined the league in 2005, Jacksonville leads the series, 7-1.
