Monday, February 15, 2010 MACON, Ga. – Juliemay Syquio led the UNF women’s basketball team to a big 57-56 win against league-leading FGCU, helping the Ospreys secure a spot in the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference women’s basketball tournament. For her performance, Syquio claimed the second Player of the Week award of her career, the conference office announced on Monday. Syquio had 13 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists against FGCU, finishing one assist shy of a triple-double with a game-high nine dishes. With her 10 rebounds, the junior guard notched back-to-back double-digit rebound games. Syquio also shot 62.5 percent from the floor versus the Eagles. On Thursday against Stetson, Syquio grabbed a team-high 12 boards, in addition to five points and three assists, to help the Ospreys defeat the Hatters, 42-33. Other Top Performers Chelsea McMillan, USC Upstate (Jr. - Forward - East Gadsden, Fla. - Accounting) – McMillan tallied a monster week in leading USC Upstate to three wins, including two against teams in the top six slots of the A-Sun standings in Mercer and Belmont. The junior forward started the week by leading Upstate to an 87-78 win against fourth-place Mercer, scoring 19 points and adding nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals. She also hit all seven free throw attempts. Against Lipscomb, McMillan helped USC Upstate to an 88-58 win by posting 18 points, hitting 8-of-10 shots from the field and adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. The East Gadsen, Fla. native posted 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Spartans to a 90-73 win over Belmont. TaRonda Wiles, ETSU (Sr. - G/F - Danville, Fla. - Criminal Justice) –Wiles helped guide ETSU to the top seed in next month’s General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament after averaging 21.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in home wins against Mercer and Kennesaw State this past weekend. Wiles, who broke out of a shooting slump with an 11-of-15 performance in the 83-71 win versus the Bears on Thursday, finished with a game-high 25 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Then on Saturday, Wiles came through with a 17-point, 5-rebound effort in the 81-63 victory versus the Owls. In addition, the Danville, Va. native tallied three steals and two blocks in 28 minutes against the Owls. In the pair of games, the criminal justice major shot a blistering 65.4 percent (17-26) from the field and knocked down five of her six 3-point attempts. Ashley Williamson, Campbell (Sr. - Center - Colonial Heights, Va. - Biology) – Williamson vaulted Campbell to its 14th win of the season, a program high since 2001, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds in a crucial win against Mercer in the Atlantic Sun's Game of the Week. The double-double notched Williamson's fifth in six games, the seventh of the season and the 11th of her career. In the first half of the 66-60 win, Williamson, Campbell's lone four-year senior, pulled down her 500th career rebound, becoming the 17th Lady Camel to accomplish the feat. The Colonial Heights, Va. native also notched 10 points and 12 rebounds against Kennesaw State. Williamson has averaged 11.5 points and 10.3 rebounds since beginning the second half of A-Sun play (last six games). |
