Amanda Inscore/news-press.com Friday, March 19, 2010 CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Brittany Brown scored a team-high 12 points and Chelsea Lyles recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, as the Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team fell, 70-57, its first round WNIT matchup with the Miami Hurricanes at the BankUnited Center on Thursday night. With the loss the Eagles fall to 24-7, while the Hurricanes improved their record to 18-13 on the season and will face Florida in the second round of the WNIT. The Eagles started the game on a 5-0 run after an Adrianne McNally (Howell Mich.) jumper and a Shannon Murphy (Brighton, Mich.) three-pointer. Miami quickly responded with a 12-0 run to take a 12-5 lead with 14:37 remaining in the half. The teams traded buckets and with Miami leading 18-13 with 8:19 remaining, the Eagles used a 22-9 run over the final 7:38, highlighted by 10 points from Eglah Griffin (Fort Myers, Fla.), to take a 35-27 lead heading into the locker room at halftime. The Eagles shot 13-of-27 (48.1-percent) from the field and 6-of-14 (42.9-percent) from three point range in the first half, while the Hurricanes shot 12-of-32 (37.5-percent) from the floor and 1-of-8 (12.5-percent) from long range in the first 20 minutes. |
