Monday, April 05, 2010 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women’s basketball team gave back to the Jacksonville community over the weekend by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. (HabiJax). The women’s team helped to build the framework for the last home in a 14 home community that HabiJax is completing. Team members as well as coaches, managers and other staff came together on the project. Since 1988 HabiJax has been in operation in the Jacksonville area. It has become one of the most effective Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the United States and has helped over 1,750 families to realize their dream of homeownership. HabiJax works closely with the City of Jacksonville, Community Development Corporations, and the Jacksonville Housing and Community Development Commission to determine appropriate locations, land use, and properties for building and renovating affordable housing. HabiJax acquires property from public and private sources at a low cost in locations that contribute to overall community revitalization and allow affordability to our homebuyers. HabiJax focuses its efforts in the Urban Core of Jacksonville. |
