NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's basketball team took a break from preseason workouts and dedicated Saturday, September 25 to serving the community and raising awareness about Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).  The Bruins joined with over 300 other Middle Tennesseans at the annual Walk for PKD in Brentwood's River Park

In addition to participating in the walk, the Bruins volunteered in the youth activity area, engaging the children with games and basketball drills.  The team also signed autographs and posed for pictures with the youth in attendance.

"After our team's participation in the Tennessee Kidney Foundation walk on September 11th, we were approached by Carol Boeing of the PKD Foundation.  Carol loved the idea of having our team at her event as well and we were more than happy to help," said Head Coach Brittney Ezell.  "She met with our players and she felt that their spirit was needed by the PKD Foundation for The Walk for PKD on Sept. 25."

"We were able to be there in enthusiastic support and to warm up the 300 participants and the children in attendance.  It was a great experience to be there and hear the PKD Foundation Nashville Chapter announce that they had surpassed their goal of $40,000 that Saturday," Ezell continued.  "Again, our players were wonderful ambassadors for Belmont University thru their giving spirits and their willingness to serve others in the community.  It was a beautiful Saturday morning and I am so honored that when our basketball program reached out, as we hope to do all year, there was the PKD Foundation reaching back."
