MACON, Ga. – In the Caribbean Challenge, FGCU’s Shannon Murphy and Sarah Hansen combined for 30 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, four steals and five three-pointers to defeat Virginia Tech, 73-65, to give the Eagles’ program its first-ever victory against an ACC foe. The tandem then added two more impressive performances to end the week 2-0 with a 16-point victory against Montana.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Shannon Murphy (Guard – Sr. – Brighton, Mich. – Marketing)
• Second A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Passed out a game-high seven assists in the 73-65 win against Virginia Tech
• Added 11 points in the game against the Hokies for program’s first win against ACC foe
• Tallied a game-high 21 points versus Montana to lead Eagles to a 16-point victory
• Averaged 16 points and five assists per game on the week and shot .500 from the field

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Shaunda Strayhorn (Guard, Belmont) – Nearly notched a triple double with 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists against Central Arkansas
• Victoria McGowan (Guard, Stetson) – Scored in double figures in both games on the week, while adding seven total steals
• Lynsey Paschal (Center, Jacksonville) – Scored a career-high 20 points in win against Hampton and pulled down nine rebounds

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Sarah Hansen (Guard – Fr. – Edinboro, Pa. – Chemistry)
• First A-Sun Newcomer of the Week award
• Helped FGCU to a 2-0 record at the Caribbean Challenge with 15 points and 5.5 rebounds
• Registered a career-high 19 points in the 73-65 win against Virginia Tech
• Added 11 points, six rebounds and two steals in a victory against Montana
• Shot .684 from all field goals and .667 from behind the arc

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Molly Ernst (Guard, Belmont) – Netted 18 points on four three-pointers against Central Arkansas and grabbed four rebounds
• Sasha Sims (Forward, Stetson) – Registered a career-high 19 points in win against Jacksonville State on 7-of-9 shooting
