MACON, Ga. – FGCU’s Courtney Chihil and Stetson’s Sasha Sims earned the Atlantic Sun Conference weekly awards, announced Tuesday by the league office, after the Eagles took down Indiana at Alico Arena, while the Hatters defeated Maine by six points. Chihil nearly recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds, while Sims led Stetson in scoring with 17 points in only 19 minutes of action.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Courtney Chihil, FGCU (Guard – Jr. – Tipp City, Ohio – Nursing)
• First A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Nearly recorded a triple-double in a win against Indiana; 14 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds
• Added two steals and shot .556 from the field
• The win against the Hoosiers marked third win for Eagles against a BCS-conference program
• Extended home-winning streak to 28 games, the third longest in the nation
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Victoria McGowan (Guard, Stetson) – Approached a triple-double in a 76-70 win over Maine; 16 pts., 11 rbs., 7 assists
• Angie Smith (Guard, Kennesaw State) – Hit overtime game-winning shot against Chattanooga en route to 17 points
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Sasha Sims, Stetson (Forward – Fr. – Fayetteville, Ga. – Communication Studies)
• First A-Sun Newcomer of the Week award
• Scored 17 points in only 19 minutes of action in a six-point victory over Maine
• Shot .550 from the field for the game, while going 4-for-4 from free throw
• Added three rebounds for the Hatters to help sweep their opponents in the Hatter Classic
