Wednesday, January 05, 2011 FORT MYERS, Fla. - For the sixth-straight week, the FGCU women's basketball team earned a third-place ranking in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Basketball Mid-Major Top-25 Poll and also picked up two first-place votes. The Eagles (10-0, 3-0 A-Sun) are one of four undefeated teams remaining in the nation alongside Duke, UNC and West Viriginia. Head Coach Karl Smesko and the rest of the Eagles trail first-place Wisconsin-Green Bay and Bowling Green in the poll, who both have one loss on the season. FGCU earned 704 points in this week's poll behind Green Bay's 770 and Bowling Green's 741. FGCU also has been receiving votes in the national poll including six points in this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll and one vote in the AP Top 25 Poll that was released on Tuesday, Jan. 4. This marks the second time in program history that the Eagles have earned votes in both polls in the same week. It is also the fourth consecutive week that the Eagles have earned at least one vote in the USA Today/ESPN poll. FGCU earned four votes in last week’s poll (Dec. 28). The Blue and Green’s one vote in the AP Poll is the fifth time the program has received votes in the national poll.
