Thursday, February 03, 2011 FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU hosts ETSU at Alico Arena on Monday night in the Atlantic Sun/CSS Game of the Week between the first and second place teams in the league. The two squads have been the best two teams in the A-Sun since FGCU joined the conference in 2007 with the Lady Bucs holding a 78-41 record during that span and the Eagles with a 90-22 mark. Earlier in the season on January 8th, the two teams meet in Johnson City, Tenn. and the visiting Eagles came away with a seven-point victory, 77-70. However, the Lady Bucs were without their star freshman, Destiny Mitchell, in that contest, who has recorded 10 double-doubles this season, which ranks second in the league.
FGCU (18-1, 11-1) comes into the game on a four-game winning streak, while ETSU (14-9, 11-3) enters with a six-game win streak. The Eagles are one of the toughest teams to beat on their home court, Alico Arena, as FGCU boasts the third-longest home winning streak at 33 games, trailing only UConn and Stanford. The Eagles last loss in Fort Myers came on January 8th, 2009 at the hands of ETSU by a score of 75-67. Latisha Belcher and Tara Davis both scored in double figures in that game, while FGCU's Shannon Murphy and Kelsey Jacobson combined for 22 points in the loss. ETSU and FGCU have finished either in first or second in the league the past three seasons as ETSU claimed the 2008 and 2010 A-Sun Regular Season Titles, while FGCU took the 2009 league crown. Matt Stewart and Dee Romine will handle the broadcast. For those outside the CSS markets, catch all the action on ESPN3.com or on ESPN Full Court.
