MACON, Ga. – A near triple-double and a 30-point game earned Campbell’s Tonisha Baker her first Atlantic Sun Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor, while FGCU’s Sarah Hansen wrapped up her third Newcomer of the Week award by helping the Eagles to two wins at Alico Arena to clinch the outright A-Sun Regular Season title for the second time in the past four seasons.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Tonisha Baker, Campbell (Guard – So. – High Point, N.C.)
• First A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Led Camels to victory against ETSU with 16 points, nine rebounds and nine assists
• Followed that effort with 30 points in season-ending victory against USC Upstate
• Two wins clinched the three seed in the Atlantic Su Tournament, starting on Wednesday
• Victory against ETSU marked first in program history against the Lady Bucs
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Sametria Gideon (Forward, Kennesaw State) – Corralled an A-Sun season high 22 rebounds against Lipscomb; 7th best in the nation
• Taneskei Richardson (Forward, Jacksonville) – Averaged double-double with 19.0PPG and 16.0 RPG to cap off the season
• Chelsea McMillan (Center, USC Upstate) – Scored 32 and grabbed 12 boards for league-leading 17th double-double of the season; tied for sixth-most in the nation
• Haley Nelson (Post, Belmont) – Helped the Bruins to two road victories by averaging 18.0 PPG and 10.0 RPG
• Tierra Brown (Guard, Stetson) – Tied her season-high with 22 against Jacksonville; added 18 points vs. UNF
• Shannon Murphy (Guard, FGCU) – Led Eagles to outright A-Sun Regular Season title with 19 PPG, 4.5 RPG and 3.5 APG
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Sarah Hansen, FGCU (Guard – Fr. – McKean, Pa. – Chemistry)
• Third A-Sun Newcomer of the Week
• Averaged 14.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG and 4.0APG in two Eagles’ wins
• Clinched the outright A-Sun Regular Season title for FGCU; its second in four years
• Eagles automatically qualify for the WNIT
• Shot 47.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Briana Williams (Guard, Mercer) – Finished the regular season as the leading scorer in the A-Sun with 552 total points
• Molly Ernst (Guard, Belmont) – Helped Bruins to a pair of road wins to close the regular season
• Roslyn Presley (Forward, Campbell) – Averaged 6.5 PPG in just 12 total minutes of action in two wins
