Thursday, March 03, 2011 MACON, Ga. – Day Two of the General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference women’s basketball championships ended with another upset, as No. 6-seed Belmont toppled No. 3-seed Campbell, 54-42, in a quarterfinal game at the University Center. With the win, the Bruins (11-19) advances to Friday’s semifinal game vs. No. 2 seed Stetson at 2:30 p.m.
The Camels (13-17) enjoyed a lead of as much as seven points, 20-13, at the 9:08 mark when Jazmine Cooper got a layup for two of her team-leading 11 points on the night, but Belmont battled back to take a two-point lead – 24-22 – into the locker room. The Bruins would not trail again. When Shaunda Strayhorn connected on a pair of free throws with 5:49 left in the game, Belmont had a double-digit lead, 43-33, and was in control the rest of the way. Strayhorn would finish the game with 13 points, thanks largely to a seven-for-eight effort from the free throw line. Haley Nelson had a game-high of 16 points for the Bruins, making good on eight-of-14 from the field and grabbing five rebounds. Tereva Moore had a big night on the glass for Belmont with 12 rebounds.
