Thursday, April 07, 2011 FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 10 spot in the final CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll of the 2010-11 season. The Eagles, the nation’s leader in three-pointers made per game (10.9), are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in the final Mid-Major Top 25. FGCU reached as high as No. 2 in the mid-major poll after starting the season 14-0. The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference. The Blue and Green (28-4, 17-3 A-Sun), who won the 2010-11 A-Sun regular season championship, dropped a highly competitive game to SEC foe Florida, 74-69, in front of an Alico Arena record crowd of 4,543 in the second round of the WNIT to wrapup the 2010-11 campaign. FGCU ended their four-year Division I transition period with four automatic bids to the WNIT, two Atlantic Sun regular season crowns and an overall record of 100-25. ETSU, Jacksonville, Stetson and USC Upstate all received votes in the poll at one point this season.
