MACON, Ga. - FGCU's Nicoya Jackson and North Florida's Fabiola Josil earned the first weekly Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball awards of the 2011-12 season. Jackson's career-high of 29 points at FIU led the Eagles to a eight-point victory, while the Ospreys' Josil collected nine points, seven rebounds and eight assists on the road against Ole Miss.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Nicoya Jackson, FGCU (Sr. – Guard – Houston, Texas – Criminal Justice)
- First Career Player of the Week award
- Totaled a career-high 29 points in a 80-72 win at FIU on Monday
- Hit six three-pointers in the game and added two rebounds and two assists
- Against Seton Hall, Jackson scored eight with five rebounds, five assists and three steals
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Destiny Mitchell (So., ETSU) – Finished with 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals against Tennessee Tech
- Brittany Kirkland (Sr., North Florida) – Netted a game-high 14 points at Ole Miss, while adding five assists
- Sasha Sims (So., Stetson) – Averaged 16.5 PPG and five assists in two games on the week
- Briana Williams (So., Mercer) – Scored a team high 18 at Davidson to finish the week with 13.5 PPG
- Haley Nelon (Sr., Belmont) – Led the Bruins in scoring in opening weekend with 16 PPG, while adding 16 rebounds and 7 blocks
- Sametria Gideon (Jr., Kennesaw State) – Grabbed nine rebounds and scored 24 points in KSU's season opener
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Fabiola Josil, North Florida(Jr. – G – Coral Springs, Fla. – Sport Management)
- First Career Newcomer of the Week award
- Posted a game-high eight assists against Ole Miss on the road
- Added nine points and seven rebounds against the SEC foe
- Was one of two UNF players to record over 30 minutes; shot 3-for-4 from the foul line
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Precious Bridges (Fr., Mercer) – Averaged nine points on the week and added three assists and two steals
- Adrienne Tarrence (Fr., Belmont) – Recorded a game-high five assists and two steals at Memphis
- Kristina Wells (Fr., Kennesaw State) – Scored nine points and had six steals in her collegiate debut
- Shanasa Sanders (Jr., Stetson) – Tied for the team-high in points with 13 in the season opener
- Amy Duke (Fr., ETSU) – Finished with nine points, five rebounds and two assists against Tennessee Tech
