MACON, Ga. - Thirteen women's basketball games are slated for play over the next week including the first six conference games of the season on Thursday, Dec 1st and Saturday, Dec. 3rd. Eight contests can be seen on ASun.TV.
Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Weekly Notes:
- FGCU’s Kelsey Jacobson became the 91st A-Sun women’s basketball player to pass the 1,000 career point mark with her nine-point outing against Webber International. She now ranks 88th all-time for career points. USC Upstate’s Tee’Ara Copney is next closest with 911 points.
- North Florida picked up its first win of the season with a 30-point win against Coastal Carolina. In the contest, the Ospreys held the Chanticleers without a three-point field goal (0-13). Mercer leads the league with four games in which they held the opposition without a three-point field goal; including their win against High Point (0-3) on Nov. 25.
- Belmont earned its first win of the season on Nov. 27th in a home contest against Indiana State, 69-59. The victory gave the Bruins their second non-conference home victory of the past two seasons. Belmont has two non-conference home games remaining this season with Austin Peay (Dec. 18) and Texas State (Dec. 21).
- FGCU rose to No. 8 in the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Poll from its spot at No. 11 last week. The Eagles have been in the top-15 of every poll this season.
- In USC Upstate’s win vs. UNC Asheville on Nov. 30th - the Spartans first win of the season - junior guard Tee’Ara Copney exploded for 34 points in the seven-point victory. Her point production is the first 30-point game of her career and is the most by an A-Sun student-athlete since Mercer’s Briana Williams registered 35 vs. Campbell on Feb. 5th last season.
- Kennesaw State’s Sametria Gideon and Belmont’s Haley Nelson are tied amongst active student-athletes for career double-doubles at 18. Nelson has three on the season, while Gideon - a junior - owns two early on. On the year, Nelson is averaging 12.1 PPG and 6.6 RPG, while Gideon is at 14.6 PPG and 8.6 RPG.
- In the rout of Webber International, FGCU tied the NCAA record for three-pointers in a contest with 21. The Eagles are now tied with New Mexico State’s mark from Feb. 23, 2002. The 21 threes are also an A-Sun record, as FGCU made six treys in the first half and 15 in the second.
- Lipscomb returns to Allen Arena after a five-game road trip in which the Lady Bisons went 0-5. Last season, Lipscomb went 6-8 at home, which included four wins in A-Sun play. The Lady Bisons welcome Mercer and Kennesaw State to Allen Arena on Thursday and Saturday.
- Jacksonville and North Florida square off on Saturday in the River City Rumble. In the last eight contests, the series is split 4-4 and the point differential is only five during that eight-game stretch.
