Saturday, January 07, 2012 NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior Haley Nelson (Scottsboro, Ala.) notched her sixth double-double of the season after tallying her 1,000th career point as she helped the Belmont women's basketball team (4-12, 3-2 A-Sun) defeat rival Lipscomb (3-13, 1-4 A-Sun) in part one of the annual Battle of the Boulevard on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins grabbed a double digit lead midway through the second half and did not look back en route to their 64-54 victory. For the second time this season, three Bruins reached double figures in scoring in a game. Nelson netted a game-high 17 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds to lead Belmont. Redshirt junior Katie Brooks (Maryville, Tenn.) added 15 and junior Alyssa Visbeen (Franklin, Tenn.) contributed 13 points. Freshman Adrienne Tarrence (Bowling Green, Ky.) finished with two blocks. Nelson becomes the second A-Sun student-athlete to reach the 1,000 career point plateau this season joining FGCU's Kelsey Jacobson. North Florida's Brittany Kirkland reached the marked last season. |
