MACON, Ga. - Belmont's Haley Nelson and USC Upstate's Tee'Ara Copney split the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week Honors, while Cara Bowling takes home the Newcomer of the Week award, announced the league office on Tuesday. Nelson recorded her ninth and tenth double-doubles of the season, Copney grabbed a career-high eight steals against Lipscomb; while Bowling recorded a career-high 16 points against Belmont.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Haley Nelson, Belmont (Sr.. – Center –Scottsboro, Ala. – Early Childhood Education/Physical Education)
- Third Career Player of the Week award; second of the season
- Recorded her ninth and tenth double-doubles of the season
- Led the Bruins to their first win over ETSU since the 2006-07 season with 21 points and 12 rebounds
- Recorded a career-high six blocks against ETSU
- Averaged 19.5 PPG, 12 RBG and had nine blocks on the week
Tee'Ara Copney, USC Upstate (Jr.. – Guard – Asheville, N.C. – Sociology)
- Second Career Player of the Week award; firstof the season
- Tallied a game-high 24 points against Lipscomb
- Went a perfect 12-for-12 from the line, improving the Spartans to .833 FT precentage on the week.
- Recorded a career-high eight steals against Lipscomb, tying an A-Sun season game-high
- Averaged 19.5 PPG, 5.5 RBG and 5.0 SPG
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Hannah Phillips (Jr., Lipscomb) – Recorded a career-high 22 points against ETSU
- Destiny Mitchell (So., ETSU) –Averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and two steals on the week
- Courtney Chihil (Sr., FGCU) –Scored a game-high 15 points in a win against second-place Stetson
- Britney Kirkland (Sr., North Florida) –Led North Florida to two road wins with 16 PPG, 5 RPG and two assists
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Cara Bowling, ETSU (Fr. – Guard – Elizabethtown, Tenn. – Exercise Science)
- First Career Newcomer of the Week award
- Began the week with a career-high 16 points against Belmont
- Added nine points and a career-high five steals in a win over Lipscomb
- Also dished out four rebounds and two assists against Belmont
- Averaged 12.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.5 SPG and 2.0 APG
