MACON, Ga. - FGCU's Sarah Hansen and Kennesaw State's Chelsea Mason claimed the weekly Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball awards, announced Tuesday by the league office. Hansen produced a 25-point, 11-rebound game vs. FIU, while Mason scored a career-high 16 points at Georgia Tech.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Sarah Hansen, FGCU (Jr. – G – McKean, Pa. – Chemistry)
- First Career Player of the Week award
- Averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two contests
- Turned in a 25-point, 11-rebound effort in FGCU win vs. FIU
- Added 19 points six rebounds and four assists at Charlotte
- Shot 51.7 from the field and 85.7 from the charity stripe
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Tee'Ara Copney (Sr., USC Upstate) – Helped Spartans to 2-2 week by averaging 11 points and 2.5 assists
- Jama Sharp (Sr., Stetson) – Shot 61.1 percent for the week and was five of ten from beyond the arc
- Tabitha Bradshaw (So., Mercer) – Led the Bears to a 3-0 start of the season; first time since 1999
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Chelsea Mason, Kennesaw State (Fr. – G – Bellevue, Neb. – Biochemistry)
- First Career Newcomer of the Week award
- Tallied 42 total points on the week coming off the bench for the Owls; averaging 25 minutes per game
- Secured a career-high 16 points at No. 20 Georgia Tech with five rebounds
- Registered double-digit points in all three Kennesaw State contests
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Brittany Starling (Fr., USC Upstate) – Averaged nine points, three rebounds in a 2-2 week for Spartans
