MACON, Ga. - Stetson's Victoria McGowan and Jacksonville's Briona Brown earned the weekly Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball awards, announced Tuesday by the league office.
McGowan went 9-for-12 from beyond the arc this week, while Brown registered 24 points in the Dolphins win over Vermont.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Victoria McGowan, Stetson (Sr. – G – Inkster, Mich. – Sports Management)
- Fifth Career Player of the Week award; first this season
- Led the Hatters to two victories by shooting 54 percent from the field and 75 percent from behind the arc
- Totaled 12 rebounds and six steals against Ball State and Bethune-Cookman
- Secured 27 points in the Hatters 66-52 win against Bethune-Cookman
- Added 16 points and seven assists in win vs. Ball State
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Sarah Hansen (Jr., FGCU) – Earned All-Tournament team honors at the 2012 Paradise Jam
- Sametria Gideon (Sr., Kennesaw State) – Became the first Owl women's basketball player to reach the 1,000 point mark
- Lauren McRoberts (Sr., USC Upstate) – Posted a team-high 12 points against George Washington
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Briona Brown, Jacksonville (Fr. – F – Haines City, Fla.)
- First Career Newcomer of the Week award
- Led the Dolphins with 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds & four steals in wins vs. Vermont and Jacksonville State
- Landed 24 points in Jacksonville's 78-67 victory over Vermont
- Secured a team-best nine boards and two assists to help lead JU past Jacksonville State
- Netted five of six free throws against JSU, including one late to secure the win
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Betsy Adams (Sr., FGCU) Scored a game-high 21 points in the Eagles game against DePaul at the Paradise Jam
- Travonda Haddock (Fr., USC Upstate) – Posted a season-high eight points against George Washington
- Ki Conner (Jr., North Florida) Helped the Ospreys to a comeback victory against Vermont with 14 points
- Chantel Kennedy (Jr., Kennesaw State) Earned her first double-double as an Owl against Wofford
