Bridges Takes Fourth Weekly Honor; Starling Lands Newcomer

MACON, Ga. – Mercer's Precious Bridges and USC Upstate's Brittany Starling were awards the Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Weekly honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Bridges recorded her third consecutive weekly award after posting 36 points in the Bears 74-70 win at Lipscomb. Her career-high performance marked the most points scored by an A-Sun player in the 2012-13 season. Starling has taken over as the hot hand for the Spartans, averaging 20 points in their two victories this week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Precious Bridges, Mercer

  • Fourth Career Player of the Week award; fourth this season
  • The sophomore keeps improving, earning her third consecutive Player of the Week Honor
  • Helped Mercer to another perfect 2-0 week and seven wins in a row overall
  • Scored a career-high 36 points at Lipscomb; the most by any A-Sun player this season
  • Tallied 20 or more points in the last six victories by the Bears
  • Shot 92.3 percent from the free throw line in this week's action

  • Destiny Mitchell (Jr., ETSU) – Earned 900th career point vs. Jacksonville
  • Ki Conner (Jr., North Florida) – Notched a career-high 23 points at ETSU
  • Hannah Phillips (Sr., Lipscomb) – Averaged 19 points and five rebounds in the Bisons two contests
  • Brittany Kennedy (Sr., FGCU) – Registered 14 points, eight assists and six boards to claim a win vs. Stetson
  • Sametria Gideon (Sr., Kennesaw State) – Became the ninth player in A-Sun history to record 1,000 points and rebounds

  • First Career Newcomer of the Week award
  • Led the Spartans to two wins with back-to-back double-doubles
  • Scored an average of 20 points on the week
  • Posted a career high 21 points in 64-52 victory vs. North Florida
  • Pulled down a season-best 15 rebounds vs. Jacksonville
  • Recorded game-high in rebounds in both of the Spartans contests this week

  • Alex Banks (Fr., Lipscomb) – Averaged 12 points and nine rebounds in the Bisons two games

  • Tiana Burley (So., ETSU) – Came off the bench to record a double-double vs. Jacksonville
