Mercer's Susie Gardner Next on Friday's A-Sun Insider

MACON, Ga. – Mercer Head Women's Basketball Coach Susie Gardner is the guest on the Friday, Feb. 1, edition of the weekly Atlantic Sun Insider, featured on "The Morning Show" on FOX Sports 1670 AM.

Gardner joins hosts Daniel Shirley and Charles Olson on the segment beginning at 8:34 am. In her third season as head coach at Mercer, Gardner has the Bears in third place in the A-Sun and riding a seven-game win streak. Picked to finish at the bottom of the A-Sun, the Bears own the second-longest win streak in the conference, trailing only defending champ FGCU, who has won 10 straight. Mercer's streak is its longest since ripping off eight in a row during the 2002-03 season while its five-straight road wins are tied for the most since 1985.

Mercer (13-7, 7-2) aims to extend its winning streak to eight games on Saturday, as the Bears host Kennesaw State (5-16, 1-8). The contest is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. tip on ASun.TV.

In conference play the Bears are in the top third of nine statistical categories, including leading the conference in assist/turnover ratio (1.5) and second in offensive rebound pct. (.372), offensive rebounds (14.2 rpg), assists (16.6 apg) and rebounding offense (39.0 rpg).

Sharnea Boykin leads the A-Sun in assists (9.1 apg), assist/turnover ratio (3.6) and in minutes played (37.4) in A-Sun games, while Teanna Robinson is fifth in defensive rebounds (5.2 rpg), T2nd in offensive rebounds (4.1), fourth in blocked shots (1.3), and third in rebounding (9.3).

During their seven-game win streak, the Bears have averaged a 12.5-point margin of victory. Precious Bridges leads the team in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game overall and 20.0 ppg to lead the A-Sun in conference games. Bridges claimed her third consecutive A-Sun Player of the Week honor on Tuesday after averaging 28.0 points per game, on 49 percent shooting from the field, to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She has scored 20 or more points in six straight games to help the Bears' streak continue. Kendra Grant also contributes in double figures at 13.3 ppg overall.

The Atlantic Sun Conference is partnering for the second consecutive year with the local Fox Sports 1670 AM as a part of its promotional efforts of men’s and women’s basketball leading up to the 2013 General Shale Atlantic Sun Basketball Championships, March 6-9, at Hawkins Arena on the campus of Mercer University.

Included in the partnership, The Atlantic Sun Insider is a regular segment to highlight weekly A-Sun action on the Friday edition of “The Morning Show.” A schedule of commercials will also run during the station’s local and syndicated shows, and additional coverage will include live broadcasts during the championships from the University Center on the station’s local afternoon show, “The Bill Shanks Show.”
