MACON, Ga. – Stetson's Shanasa Sanders and Kennesaw State's Chelsea Mason earned Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Weekly Honors after leading their squads to 2-0 records on the week.
Sanders shot 50 percent from the field to help the Hatters continue their 16-game home court winning streak, while Mason landed her fourth newcomer award this season after scoring 33 total points in the Owls two victories.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Shanasa Sanders, Stetson (Sr. – G – Jacksonville, Fla. – Business)
- Second Career Player of the Week award; sixth career A-Sun weekly honor
- Averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the Hatters two wins
- Shot 50 percent from the field in the two contests
- Scored 17 first-half points against USC Upstate
- Defensively had three blocks and three steals on the week without committing a foul
- Helped Stetson extend its home court winning streak to 16; ranked No. 4 in the country
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Sarah Hansen (Jr., FGCU) – Recorded 26 points, shooting 50 percent in win vs. ETSU
- Cara Bowling (So., ETSU) – Averaged 12 points and three assists in both of the Buccaneers contests
- Hannah Phillips (Sr., Lipscomb) – Surpassed 1,000 career points with 22 points vs. Northern Kentucky
- Kayla Thacker (Jr., Northern Kentucky) – Scored a career-high 23 points vs. Lipscomb with six three-point field goals
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Chelsea Mason, Kennesaw State (Fr. – G – Bellevue, Neb. – Biochemistry)
- Fourth Career Newcomer of the Week award
- Landed 33 total points in the Owls back-to-back wins
- Secured a double-double vs. Jacksonville with 20 points and ten rebounds
- Went 7-of-14 from the field against JU
- Averaged 8.5 rebounds per game for the Owls this week
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Queen Alford (Fr., Jacksonville) – Pulled down a season-best 15 rebounds vs. Mercer
- Dytiesha Dunson (Fr., FGCU) – Recorded a career-high 12 points as well as three steals vs USC Upstate
- Tiana Burley (So., ETSU) – Collected a double-double in three of her last five games
