Bears Clinch 20-Win Season in #ASunWBB Quarterfinal Victory

MACON, Ga. - In the first-ever championship meeting between Mercer and Jacksonville, the Bears prevailed with a 63-53 win in Thursday's quarterfinal of the 2013 General Shale Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Championship.

The Bears collected their 20th win of the season to advance to 20-10 overall. This marks the first 20-win season for Mercer since the 1991-1992 season.

Mercer's sophomore duo of Precious Bridges and Alicia Williams combined for 33 of the Bears' 63 points. Bridges, an A-Sun First Team All-Conference Player and No. 2 scorer in the league, ended the day with 17 points, hitting 11-14 from the free-throw line.

Coming into today's quarterfinal, the Bears' Sharnea Boykin led the league in assists with 8.2 assists per game. Against the Dolphins, Boykin registered 10 assists just three shy of tying the tournament record.

The Bears' Sharmesia Smith pulled down 13 rebounds to lead all players while also picking up two blocks defensively.

The Dolphins' Tracie Sneed registered her second double-double of the season with 13 points and ten rebounds, while teammate Briona Brown added 16 points for JU.

Jacksonville concludes its season with an 11-19 record.

Mercer will be making an appearance in the A-Sun Championship Semifinals for the first time since 2009 where they face No. 2 seed Stetson on Friday, March 8th at 2:30 PM EST on CSS.

The Bears are hoping to be the first host school since 1998 to win the A-Sun Championship title.
