FGCU Falls to Winthrop in WNIT to End the Season

MACON, Ga. - FGCU fell to Winthrop 65-51 in the WNIT to conclude their 2012-13 women's basketball season 27-7 record. The Eagles loss at Alico Arena halted their ten-game home court winning streak that was tied for the 14th longest streak in the country.

FGCU was unable to stop Winthrop's Dequesha McClanahan as she recorded the game-high 19 points while adding ten rebounds.

Stephanie Haas came off the bench for FGCU to land a team-high 13 points.

Atlantic Sun Championship MVP, Joyce Iamstrong and A-Sun Player of the Year, Sarah Hansen combined for 24 points. The duo collected 21 of the Eagles 36 rebounds in the game to register a double-double on the night.

A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year, Brittany Kennedy dished out a game-high four assists.

FGCU only hit 27.3 percent from behind the arc compared to its season average of 33 percent.

The Eagles earned an automatic bid to the Postseason WNIT in five of the program’s six seasons since moving to Division I. FGCU set an A-Sun record this season after going back-to-back 18-0 seasons in conference play.
