MACON, Ga. – The Belmont women’s basketball squad struggled in the early going this season, earning victories in just two of its first seven games, but sophomore Amber Rockwell led the Bruins to a pair of wins this past week; including a 17-point drubbing of Alabama. Rockwell scored 29 points in the Bruins’ victory over the Crimson Tide, and the conference office announced her first career Player of the Week honor Tuesday afternoon.
The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native recorded a career-high 29 points against her hometown foe en route to helping head coach Tony Cross pick up his 500th career victory. Three days later, she notched 15 points in Belmont's win over cross-town rival Tennessee State. The performances moved her into second on the team in scoring. The exercise science major also rocketed into the top 20 of Atlantic Sun scorers.
