Valtin Earns A-Sun Women's Runner of the Week Award

Macon, Ga. - Campbell junior Alicia Valtin (Sanford, N.C./Elementary Education major) was named Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week today as announced by the conference office.

In last weekend’s Campbell Invitational, Valtin broke the course 4000-meter record with a time of 14:22, to place first overall in the meet and help lead the team to victories over UNC Wilmington, Winthrop, Gardner-Webb and Mercer.

Valtin was an Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team member last season for Cross Country, she competed in neither cross country nor indoor track because of an injury and was granted a red-shirt. In the outdoor track season she earned a bid to the NCAA East Regional in Randall’s Island, N.Y. in both the 1500m and the 3000m steeplechase. She also earned first All-Atlantic Sun honors in the 1500m and second team in the 800m and third team in the 3000m steeplechase.

The Fighting Camels will be on the road this weekend as they head to Earlysville, Va. for the Virginia Lou Onesty Invitational.

Campbell hosts the 2005 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29.

The Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the 2005 cross country season.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
