Belmont Women Top Preseason Cross Country Poll

Macon, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference today announced its 2006 Preseason Women's Cross Country Coaches Poll as voted by the league's 10 head coaches. Belmont took the top spot, receiving 94 points including five first place votes.

The Bruins topped the polls during the 2005 season as well. Defending A-Sun champion Kennesaw State received 84 points and three first place votes. UNF, only two points off the pace of Kennesaw, picked up two first place votes. Campbell and ETSU round out the top five with 63 and 55 points respectively.

The A-Sun kicks off the 2006 season on Sept. 1 with Belmont and Lipscomb at the Belmont Opener, ETSU at the Covered Bridge Open, Stetson, UNF and JU at the JU Short Course Duals, and Mercer at the Gamecock Invitational.

The Cross Country poll serves as the conference standings and will be announced on Sept. 19 and and again on Oct. 17 before the A-Sun Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 28 at Gardner-Webb.
