Tangwar Runs Down Second Runner of the Week Award

MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate's Emily Tangwar took down 112 runners while capturing fourth-place in the Furman Invitational to win her third career Runner of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Tangwar, a nursing major from Eldoret, Kenya finished fourth overall among 116 females competing in the invitational on Saturday. Tangwar's finishing time of 18:53 was the first among Atlantic Sun competitors. She helped lead her team to a fifth-place finish of 18 teams competing.

Saturday's competition marked the fourth time this season that Emily Tangwar has finished within the final ten finishers, and the third time she has been one of the top five runners. The 2007 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year has led the Spartans all season and is expected to play a significant role for the team in Conference Championships.

They will pick up competition again next weekend in the Blue Ridge Open on Saturday in Boone, N.C.

Mackenzie Howe, Kennesaw State (So. - Health & Exercise Sciences - Watkinsville, Ga.) - Placed fifth in the 5k race with a time of 17:50.90. 353 runners participated in the event; led the Owls to a ninth place finish out of 44 teams.
