NEW ORLEANS - Junior Brittany Thune (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was named to the 2008 Division I South Region Women's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCC) All-Region team, it was announced on Monday.

Thune finished 20th at the South Regional on Nov. 15 in Maryville, Tenn. with a time of 21:38.30 which marked an improvement from placing 39th in last season's meet.

She also helped Belmont continue its dominance at the Atlantic Sun Championships with its third consecutive conference title and seventh in the last eight years at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home in Macon, Ga. on Nov. 1. Thune won the individual title and was named the Runner of the Year after finishing with a time of 17:39.06, finishing nearly 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Not only was this a career-best for Thune, but it was the fastest time at the A-Sun Championships since 2005 and the fourth best winning time in the past 17 years.

Thune became the second consecutive Belmont runner to be named the A-Sun Runner of the Year. Lauren Weaver received the award last season. Thune was also named to the All-Conference first team which she was also named to in 2007. In 2006, she was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Year and named to the second team.

This is the third consecutive season that Belmont has had a runner named to the All-Region team. Weaver received this honor in 2006 and 2007.
