Pierre Bests Field at UCF; Wins A-Sun Weekly Award

MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville's Joane Pierre claimed her second-straight meet title as she captured the UCF Attack Challenge this past week and earned her second career Atlantic Sun Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor. The 2011 Atlantic Sun Women's Cross Country Championship is set for October 29, 2011 in Nashville, Tenn. at Percy Warner Park.

WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK:
Joane Pierre, Jacksonville
(Jr. – Immokalee, Fla. – Management)
• Second Career Runner of the Week award; first this season
• Won the UCF Attack Challenge with a time of 21:47.32 in the 6K race
• Her performance ranks as the second-fastest 6K time in program history
• Marks her second-straight meet title

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Joan Tangwar, USC Upstate - Won the Upstate Invitational in 17:32 to help Spartans to team title
• Mia Elbon, Belmont - Lead Bruins to win at Evansville Invitational by placing third out of 111 runners
• Barrie Cohen, FGCU - Earned a fifth-place finish at UCF Invitational and set a new program 6K record, 22:43
