Thursday, November 10, 2011 MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference honored Tessa Hoefle of Lipscomb University as the Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight the league’s inaugural Academic All-Conference team. A First Team All-Atlantic Sun selection, Hoefle finished fifth at the A-Sun Women’s Cross Country Championships and helped lead the Bisons to their first A-Sun title in 2011. Lipscomb currently ranks sixth in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll. The A-Sun women’s cross country Runner of the Year, USC Upstate’s Jemeli Sang, also landed on the Academic All-Conference team with a GPA of 3.45. Sang claimed the individual title at the A-Sun Women’s Cross Country Championships with a time of 17:20.90. The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams this fall to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s matches.
