#ASunXC Women's Squads Gear Up For New Season

MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Women’s Cross Country season kicks off this weekend with nine squads competing in meets.

Jacksonville and North Florida host home meets with the Dolphins bringing in teams for the JU Short Course Duals on Friday, August 30th and the Ospreys welcome squads for the North Florida XC Challenge on Saturday.

A-Sun Women's Cross Country Notes (#ASunXC):

  • Lipscomb and North Florida rank in the top-15 of the South Region in the USTFCCCA Preseason Ranking with LU coming in at No. 7, only behind five SEC squads and top-ranked Florida State. UNF cracked the list at No. 12 in the ranking.
  • Preseason favorite Lipscomb races in the Belmont Opener on Friday. The Bisons return Dani Walker, the Preseason Runner of the Year, after Walker finished third in the A-Sun Championship and 18th in the NCAA South Region Championship.
  • LU also returns top runners in Tessa Hoefle and Kendra Lobley who finished in the top-10 of the 2012 A-Sun Championship. In total, the Bisons have all seven of their top-finishers from 2012 competing this season.
  • The Bisons have won back-to-back A-Sun titles and look to become the fourth squad to win three titles in a row.
  • Despite winning back-to-back championships, Lipscomb has yet to take home an individual runner championship title. Kennesaw State, Jacksonville and USC Upstate have all claimed an individual championship with the A-Sun.
  • North Florida has finished first or second in the last three A-Sun Championships.
  • As a squad, the Owls improved their championship finish by five spots last year finishing fourth overall.
  • Jacksonville returns Svenja Meyer who finished sixth at last year’s A-Sun Championship.
  • Upstate, KSU and host team JU will all compete in the JU Short Course Duals on Friday.
  • ETSU is the lone team not competing in the opening week but will pick up with the Commodore Classic on September 14th.
  • Lipscomb is hosting the A-Sun Championship on November 2nd at the Vaughn's Gap course in Nashville, Tenn. This will be the fourth time the A-Sun Championship was located at Vaughn's Gap with the Bisons winning the 2011 Championship on the course.
