Macon, Ga. – Belmont topped the Atlantic Sun Women’s Cross Country poll for the second straight time, but saw their lead over the rest of the field shrink as the league office announced the second of five polls by the conference’s 11 head coaches.
The Bruins received 106 points including four first place votes to lead the way. Campbell made a big move behind the efforts of A-Sun Runner of the Week Alicia Valtin, vaulting into second place with an eight-point improvement and a total of 102 points. Florida Atlantic (98 points), Kennesaw State (80 points) and UNF (67 points) rounded out the top-5. Gardner-Webb made the biggest jump from poll-to-poll, adding 11 total points to their total.
Belmont hits the course again this weekend at the Western Kentucky Classic and a total of seven A-Sun schools will be in action on September 17.
The Cross Country poll serves as the conference standings and is announced on the 1st and 15th of the month during the season.
The Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championship will be held Saturday, October 29, 2005. Campbell University will serve as host.
