Macon, Ga. - Campbell junior Alicia Valtin (Sanford, N.C./Elementary Education
major) was named Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week today by the conference office.
Valtin ran a personal best 5K time of 17:43.40 to win the Women's Collegiate Division
at the Great American Cross Country Festival this weekend in Cary, N.C. Valtin's
win helped lead the Camels to a fourth place finish ahead of Atlantic Sun opponent
Florida Atlantic. Her mark is the second fastest in the league this season.
The win is Valtin's second of the season having already won the Campbell Invitational.
The time is also the third fastest cross country 5K ever recorded by a Campbell
woman runner. Valtin did not compete in cross country for the Camels last season
due to an injury but did manage to earn conference All-Academic honors for a sixth
time (three cross country, three track).
On October 8, The Fighting Camels will travel to Greenville, S.C. to compete in
the Furman Invitational.
Campbell hosts the 2005 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships
on Oct. 29.
The Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2005 cross country season.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
