When Patrina Hayes transferred to Kennesaw State from Oakland Community College
in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Stan Sims, Kennesaw State Cross Country head
coach knew she had the talent to compete at this level. What he may never have
known was that she would be pushing herself to run a sub-17 minute 5K.
In 2003 Hayes placed third in the National Junior College Athletic Association
Championships and was named an All-American for Oakland Community College. The
Pontiac, Mich., native was just getting serious about cross country and transferred
to Kennesaw State.
She got so serious that she shaved over two minutes off of her times since transferring to KSU and has now begun training with the men's team. KSUOwls.com
recently caught up with Hayes, who was named A-Sun Runner of the Week for October
5.
