MACON, Ga. - Kennesaw State's Erin Sutton's stellar 2007 campaign continued this past weekend, despite her not winning the individual portion of the race for the first time in three weeks. Her sixth place finish at the Georgia State Invitational in a time of 19:16.25 was almost one full minute faster than her time the week before and currently ranks as the third-fastest 5K time in the league. This strong performance earned Sutton her second Atlantic Sun Female Runner of the Week award of the year, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Sutton holds the distinction of being the first student-athlete of the 2007-08 year to win a second Player of the Week award in any sport.
The junior biology major from Dallas, Ga. helped the Owls take second place at the 35th Annual Georgia State Invitational, held on Saturday morning in Atlanta. After back-to-back meet wins, Kennesaw State was edged by the host, Georgia State. Sutton was joined in the top 10 by freshman Mackenzie Howe. She took seventh, five seconds behind Sutton.
Sutton’s season has included a pair of wins prior to this sixth-place finish. She won the Jacksonville State University Cross Country Season Opener and the Mercer Atlanta Invitational.
The Owls will take the upcoming week off before traveling to the Plains on Saturday, September 29 as they race in the Auburn Invitational.
