MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State sophomore Mackenzie Howe picked up on her stellar freshman campaign by opening the cross country season with a win at the Jacksonville State Invitational. On Wednesday, she earned the first Runner of the Week award of 2008, the conference office announced.

In 2007, Howe burst onto the Atlantic Sun scene by winning a pair of Runner of the Week awards and earned a spot on the All-Conference team and All-Freshman team after finishing eighth at the league meet. On Saturday, the health and exercise sciences major from Watkinsville, Ga. led the Owls to a team win by finishing the two mile race with a time of 11:44.

The Owls will be back in action when they travel to Tennessee to compete in the UT Chattanooga Powerade Invitational on Friday, September 5.

The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship. Headquartered in Macon, Ga., the A-Sun encompasses six of the top eight media markets in the Southeast. The A-Sun consists of some of the most dynamic private and public institutions in the region: Belmont University, Campbell University, East Tennessee State University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Lipscomb University, Mercer University, University of North Florida, University of South Carolina Upstate and Stetson University.

Other Top Performers

Caroline Chelulei, UPST (Fr. - Eldoret, Kenya - Nursing) -- Finished 21st of 100 runners with a final time of 19:52. She helped lead her team to a 6th place finish of 11 teams; Led the USC Upstate Spartan women in their first meet at the Covered Bridge Open.

Elisabeth Goshu, JU (Jr. - Denver - Art) -- In 90-degree temperatures and a course that was muddy still soggy from Tropcial Storm Fay, Goshu ran a time of 12:48 to finish first at the JU short course duals; Led JU to a 4-0 record in the duals to win the event.

Hillary Adams, UNF (Jr. - Dallas, Pa. - Education) -- Hillary Adams led the Lady Ospreys at the Covered Bridge Open over the weekend, bringing home a 15th place finish in the 5k event. Adams recorded a time of 19:41 in a field of 100 runners.
