MACON, Ga. - Campbell's Alejandra Shaw claimed Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Month honors for March.
Shaw shot a season-best 69 in the second round of the UNLV Spring Invitational (Mar. 13-15) and recorded her fifth top-5 individual performance of the year. Her 69 helped Campbell to a season-best 292 team score and tie a school 36-hole record of 588. The Vina del Mar, Chile native bettered her previous season-best 54-hole score by six strokes (215) at UNLV while leading the Camels to the second-best 54-hole total in school history (885). At the UNLV event, Campbell defeated three schools ranked in the nation's top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index -- Long Beach State (22), New Mexico (24) and San Jose State (45). Shaw is majoring in Graphic Design.
Shaw now turns her attention to the A-Sun Championships. The women’s event runs April 9-11 at DeBary Golf & Country Club and will determine the league champion and representative in the NCAA Regionals.
The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Golfer of the Month awards during the first full week of every month during the 2005-06 campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
