Tuesday, October 24, 2006 Clarksville, Tenn. – For just the first time in the 10-year history of the program, the Belmont women’s golf team are champions. On Tuesday, the Bruins won the team championship at the 2006 F&M Austin Peay Intercollegiate held at Clarksville Country Club in Club in Clarksville, Tennessee. Before this victory, the program’s best finish was a second place showing at the TSU Lady Tiger Intercollegiate in 2003. Belmont shot a team score of 317 on Tuesday to finish with a 36-hole mark of 641, which allowed them to pass first day leader Butler to win the team title by four strokes. Wofford College finished third with a score of 656. “I am really proud of this team,” said Lissa Bradford, Belmont head coach. “The cold, windy conditions we had to play in these last two days were extremely tough, but this team grinded and worked hard and it paid off with this victory.” BU placed three golfers among the top-10, all Middle Tennessee products |
