Thursday, April 05, 2007 Macon, Ga. -- After a month that saw Stetson's Lauren Darnell capture two individual titles, she has been selected as the Atlantic Sun's Golfer of the Month for the first time in her young collegiate career, league officials announced today. Darnell, a freshman from Gainesville, Fla., won the Treasure Coast Women's Classic after carding a 70, 71, 71 to finish with a three-round total of 212 (-1). Her stroke total in the event broke a Stetson record for lowest 54-hole total. Darnell also finished first at the NIU Snowbird Tournament, shooting a total of 152 in the two-round event. In both events the Hatters were also able to capture team titles. The honor is the first of its kind for Darnell, and marks the first time that a Stetson student-athlete has been honored as such since Sept. 2003. The Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Month is announced on Thursday during the first full week of the month. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08. |
