Shaw Grabs Third Career Golfer of the Month Nod

Date Posted: 10/5/2006

MACON, Ga. – Campbell’s Alejandra Shaw opened with a pair of impressive performances against top flight competition to earn A-Sun Golfer of the Month honors. Shaw led Campbell to a second-place finish behind host Nebraska at the Chip-N Club Invitational (Sept. 18-19), followed by Kansas, Missouri State and Kansas State in the 14-school field. A senior from Vina del Mar, Chile, Shaw led the 80-player field with 12 birdies over the 54-hole event and placed third individually. Shaw’s second-round 72 was the low round of the tournament on the par-72, 6040-yard Yankee Hill County Club course.

The reigning A-Sun Player of the Year opened her senior season by finishing 11th individually against a top-notch field at the College of Charleston Cougar Classic Sept. 10-11. Twelve schools, including Campbell, in the 18-team Cougar Classic field earned NCAA Regional invitations last spring. CU placed 11th and finished ahead of Notre Dame, UNC Greensboro, Mississippi State, Miami, Richmond, Georgia State and Kentucky in the team standings.

Through two events (six rounds) this year, Shaw owns a 74.7 stroke average. Shaw also has been chosen to represent her native Chile at the World Amateur Team Championships, Oct. 18-21 in South Africa. She majors in Graphic Design.
