Calera, Ala. – Belmont sophomore Lorie Warren won individual medalist honors and the Bruins as a team finished in third place at the Samford Intercollegiate held Monday and Tuesday at the Timberline Golf Club in Calera, Alabama.
Warren, a Hendersonville High product, picked up her first individual title as a collegian as she posted a 72 in Tuesday’s final round to give her a 54-hole score of 223 and a one shot victory over Aubree Moore of Eastern Kentucky. She becomes the second Belmont women’s golfer to win an individual title, joining Audra Williams, who won the APSU Intercollegiate last season. It also marked her sixth top-10 finish of the 2006-07 season.
Belmont, as a team, finished third out of 14 teams. They shot 303 in Tuesday’s final round for a 54-hole total of 926. It marked the seventh time this season that BU had finished among the top-five as a team in a tournament. The Bruins finished 11 shots behind tournament champions South Alabama and 10 shots behind second place Eastern Kentucky.
