Buies Creek, N.C. – Following the first day of competition at the Keith
Hills Country Club the Campbell women’s golf team, lead by Alejandra Shaw,
hold a six-stroke lead over the rest of the field at the 2007 Atlantic Sun Women’s
Golf Championship in Buies Creek, N.C.
The defending conference champions were last to tee-off and finished Day 1
eight over par. The Camels finished with a 296, setting a new A-Sun record for
the lowest first round by a team.
Individually the field of 40 is led by Shaw and Mercer’s Monica Kelsey.
Kelsey and Shaw, the 2006 A-Sun individual champion, shot a plus-one, 73, and
hold a one-stroke lead over Stetson’s Kara Doyle, Jacksonville’s
Therese Karlsson, Campbell’s Mary Mattson and Maite Ortiz de Pinedo, and
Mercer’s Anna Rogers.

Second round action is set to begin 9:00 a.m. with Gardner-Webb’s Katie
Garahan and Lipscomb’s Brittney Beard teeing off. The last group in round
two features the field’s co-leaders, Shaw and Kelsey, along with Doyle.
The final group is scheduled to take to the course at 11:06 a.m.
NOTE: Round two was originally scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., but
due to overnight forecasts, tournament officials have made the decision to delay
the start by one hour.
