MACON, Ga. - Belmont junior Lorie Warren enjoyed a record-setting tournament at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate, both individually and for her team. She set a school record for scoring and helped the Bruins to a team-scoring record in the first round en route to a runner-up finish for herself and a fourth-place finish for the team. When combined with her seventh-place finish at the Drake Invitational earlier in September, Warren was named the female Golfer of the Month for September, as announced by the conference office on Friday.
Warren, a management major from Hendersonville, Tenn., also won the Golfer of the Month award for October of her freshman year. This month she broke her own Bruins’ scoring record with a 69 during the first round of the Great Smokies event. Warren had established the 18-hole record with a 71 at the Vanderbilt Triangular match on April 14, 2007. Her stellar play helped lead Belmont to a record-low team score of 294 in that first round, breaking the previous low score of 296 also set at the Vanderbilt Triangular match on April 14, 2007. The Bruins took fourth place in the event, the highest finish Belmont has ever posted in the event.
The Bruins will next take to the course on Monday as part of the 16-team field Lady Indian Classic. The event is hosted by Arkansas State and will be contested on the Jonesboro Country Club.
