Warren wins Second Monthly Golf Award of the Year

MACON, Ga. – After almost four months away from team competition, Belmont’s Lorrie Warren stepped back onto the course and entered the winner’s circle at the Jacksonville Spring Invitational, dominating the event in winning by 14 shots. In honor of her outstanding play, on Wednesday, the conference office announced that she won the Golfer of the Month award for February, her second award of the 2007-08 season and third of her career.

Warren, a junior business major from Hendersonville, Tenn., won the Jacksonville Spring Invitational individual title contested on February 25-26 after posting a 36-hole score of 141. Her score broke her own school record of 143 set at the Great Smokies Collegiate in October. She also tied her own school record for lowest 18-hole score with the 69 she shot in the second round. She won her first individual title of the season and fourth of her career and did so in dominating fashion. She carded the only round under par of the event with the second-round 69. She won the individual title by 14 shots over a four-way tie of Stetson’s Danielle Jackson and Ashley Kozlowski as well as Austin Peay’s Chelsea Harris and Daytona Beach’s Melissa Magdor. For 2007-08 season, she leads Belmont in scoring with a 74.4 average and owns five top-10 finishes.

The Bruins’ women’s golf team and Warren next take to the links in two weeks when they partake in the Samford Intercollegiate in Oneonta, Ala.

Maite Ortiz de Pinedo, CAM (Sr. – Valladolid, Spain – Professional Golf Management) – Claimed her third individual collegiate victory and led Campbell to the team title Feb. 25-26 at the Fighting Camel Spring Classic.

Anna Rogers, MER (Sr. – Hartwell, Ga. – Business) - Posted back-to-back 76’s en route to capturing the Cateechee Collegiate Classic title and paced the Bears to the team crown as well.

Jessica Tarbet, KSU (Fr. – Corryton, Tenn. – Undeclared) - Turned in her best finish at the collegiate level with her tie for seventh at the spring-opening Baja Invitational where she led the Owls to a third place finish; Led field in par five scoring average (4.89 and improved her previous low round by five strokes.
