Lorie Warren Wins Fifth Title of her Belmont Career

Waynesville, N.C. - Belmont senior golfer Lorie Warren captured her fifth individual title of her collegiate career when she earned medalist honors at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate held Monday and Tuesday in Waynesville, North Carolina. In the team results, the Bruins finished in 15th place.

Warren, the reigning Tennessee Women's Amateur Champion, posted a three-under 69 in Tuesday's final round to capture the title over Wofford's Sarah Hunt by one stroke. Her 36-hole score of 138 broke her own school record by three shots and was the second lowest individual score in the history of the tournament. Over her last four rounds at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate over the past two seasons, Warren has three rounds of 69 and one of 74 for a stroke average of 70.25.

As a team, the Bruins posted a score of 307 on Tuesday to finish the two-day event in 15th place at 608. They finished 30 shots behind tournament champion and host Western Carolina.

Freshman Kelly Maguigan had a solid start to her collegiate career. The Franklin, Tenn. native shot a 76 on day two to finish tied for 26th with a score of 149. Other Belmont scores from the tournament included: Ashleigh Garman (T-93rd, 160), Lauren Oeser (T-96th, 161), and Laura Dyson (112th, 173). Freshman Jennifer Newman competed as an individual and finished tied for 63rd at 154.

The Bruins will be back in action next Monday-Wednesday, September 22-24, at the Eat a Peach Collegiate hosted by Mercer in Macon, Georgia
