DeLAND, Fla. - A record-setting team score of two-over par, 290 by Campbell has the Camels in position for their ninth A-Sun Women's Golf Championship following play from Victoria Hills Golf Club on Tuesday.
A pair of Camels, Mary Mattson and Michelle Koh, recorded two of the three sub-par rounds, as each carded one-under, par 71s. Koh closed her second round with four birdies against no bogeys, spanning the final 10 holes. Mattson birdied three of her last 10 holes. Campbell’s team score, 290, established an A-Sun Women’s Championship 18-hole team record. UCF had held the record since 2000, shooting a 292 in the final round, en route to a one-shot victory against Campbell.
Stetson kept within striking distance, shooting a 295 to sit three strokes behind Campbell. Lauren Cate registered the third of the day’s 71s, moving into a tie atop the leaderboard with her teammate, Danielle Jackson. Cate picked up her second eagle in as many days, eagling the par-5 ninth hole. For the A-Sun Championship, Cate has played Victoria Hills’ four par-5s in a combined five-under par. Jackson made only one birdie against a pair of bogeys in shooting a one-over, 73.
Defending champion ETSU remains alive for a second title, shooting a combined 301 for the second consecutive day. The Buccaneers will enter Wednesday 12 shots in back of the Camels. Nina Muehl led the way, shooting a 73. She shares third in the individual race with Belmont’s Lorie Warren and three-over, 147. Muehl’s teammates, Kennie Eisenhower, Sinead O'Sullivan and Laura Jansone all posted four-over par 76s.
FGCU held steady in fourth place, 15 shots in back of ETSU. Belmont moved up to fifth led by Warren’s second-round 73. She trails Cate and Jackson by three strokes in the race for the Medalist honors. Kennesaw State sits in sixth with Mercer in seventh. Jacksonville moved up one spot to eighth after improving by 16 shots from Monday, registering a 304. USC Upstate bettered its second-round score by 13 and leads Lipscomb by six strokes for ninth.
