Clark Earns Pentathlon Title to Open A-Sun Meet

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Simone Clark became the first athlete to earn an individual title at the 2007 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn., winning the pentathlon with 3,171 points and picking up 10 team points to give Jacksonville and early lead on the women's side.

Clark began the day with a first place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.02; 906 points), her best individual finish during the pentathlon. She finished second in the high jump (4-11.75; 644 points) and long jump (16-4 1/4; 554), third in the 800-meter run (2:37.23; 605 points) and fourth in the shot put (29-5 1/4; 462 points).

As a team, Jacksonville's women currently lead with 24 team points after garnering the top three spots in the pentathlon. They are followed by Kennesaw State (4) and Gardner-Webb (3).

On the men's side, ETSU's Michael Wright currently leads the heptathlon after four events. Wright has 2,729 points with three events remaining and a 158 point lead over teammate Nicholas Chernikow.
