MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference received a preview of the upcoming A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championship as five teams participated in the Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn. ETSU’s Jasmine Ingram and Jarrod Burton picked up their second A-Sun Athlete of the Week awards for their performance at their home event, while USC Upstate’s Gilbert Kemboi and Campbell’s Jessica Dunston also earned recognition.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Gilbert Kemboi, USC Upstate (Distance – So – Eldoret, Kenaya – Sociology)
• Second Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
• Placed second in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:36.46 at Niswonger Invitational
• Owns fastest time in A-Sun in both the 3,000m and 5,000m runs
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Jasmine Ingram, ETSU (Sprints – Sr. – Frederick, Md. – Criminal Justice)
• Fourth Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
• Claimed three top-three finishes at the Niswonger Invitational
• Placed second in 400m with time of 55.11, which ranks 53rd in the nation and first in A-Sun
• Raced to third in 200m in 24.65; 4th in A-Sun and 160th nationally
• Wrapped up day by running on second-place 4x400m team (3:51.13)
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Jarrod Burton, ETSU (Throws – Sr. – Bastian, Va. – Exercise Science)
• Fifth A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week award
• Won the weight throw at Niswonger Invitational with top toss of 61’11
• Also claimed third place in shot put with distance of 54’6.75
• Ranks first in A-Sun in shot put and second in weight throw
• Owns 43rd best performance in shot put and 56th best in weight throw nationally
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Jessica Dunston, Campbell (Throws – So.)
• First A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week award
• Won the weight throw at Niswonger Invitational with top toss of 57’0.75
• Toss set the school record in the event and gave Dunston second best performance in A-Sun
• Also placed 18th in the shot put at meet
